Our mission is to make every measurement count driving Performance, Compliance, and Profitability.

Gulf Natural Gas Receiving Station:

A recent change in gas composition by the upstream supply company required the receiving station to upgrade its critical monitoring analyzers. The station needed accurate tracking of new hydrocarbon and sulfur components to ensure custody transfer integrity and compliance with quality standards. With compositional shifts introducing new variables, there was concern about whether the upgraded analyzers could provide reliable results within acceptable accuracy limits.

Key notes

  • Industry: Oil & Gas (Gas Receiving & Custody Transfer)
  • Analyzers: C6 Natural Gas Chromatograph, Total Sulfur Analyzer
  • Impact: Identified >5% uncertainty, established variance bands, ensured custody transfer reliability
  • Identified >5% overall uncertainty in analyzers under the new gas composition
  • Established variance bands for monitoring and control of uncertainty
  • Enabled the client to make informed operational and compliance decisions
  • Strengthened confidence in custody transfer data despite compositional changes

The EPC Contractor engaged Engineerim to perform a highly critical measurement uncertainty analysis on the upgraded analyzers:

  • C6 Natural Gas Chromatograph
  • Total Sulfur Analyzer

Our team modeled analyzer performance against the new compositional range, considering calibration strategies, process variability, and inherent analyzer specifications. This rigorous assessment quantified the expected uncertainty envelope under real operating conditions.

Our analysis revealed that the selected analyzer models would exhibit more than 5% overall uncertainty at the new compositional range. Rather than leaving this as a potential blind spot, we provided the client with detailed variance bands, showing how uncertainty would behave across different process scenarios. This gave the client the ability to establish, track, and control an acceptable uncertainty band for critical custody transfer and compliance reporting.

With Engineerim’s analysis, the Gulf Gas Receiving Station can confidently manage gas quality monitoring under evolving supply conditions. By quantifying and containing uncertainty, the client now has a defensible framework for variance monitoring — ensuring compliance, protecting commercial integrity, and maintaining smooth operations.

Engineerim enables gas facilities to navigate compositional changes with clarity, ensuring custody transfer accuracy through robust uncertainty analysis.
